Toothpaste has many uses.
While it keeps our teeth clean and helps to freshen our breath, it also has many other uses, making it very handy to have around! Today on the Defacto Dentists blog, we’re looking at some surprising uses of toothpaste. Have you or would you try any of these?
It cleans crayons off of walls.
Something that as children, we were all probably guilty of! Gone are the days of scraping crayon off the wall and using harsh chemicals and wearing down the paint. Simply grab some toothpaste and a cloth or a soft scrubbing brush and rub a little against the crayon on the walls and watch it come away a lot easier than ever before!
It gets rid of fake tan hands.
Life is better with a tan, even if it is from a bottle! But orange, tan-smelling hands aren’t attractive. Too remove tough staining, grab a little whitening toothpaste, and put a few pea sized amount blobs on the fronts and backs of your hands. Rub your hands together as you would with normal soap. The abrasives in the toothpaste will scrub against the tough tan stains and help to combat any unsightly patchiness. Nobody needs to know it’s not a real tan!
It’ll remove tough smells from your hands.
Ever chopped up an onion, some garlic or chillies and noticed a lingering smell on your hands? Toothpaste can fix that. Following the steps in the tip above, you’ll be able to remove those pungent smells!
Toothpaste can soothe Bug Bites.
If you are one of those people who can’t avoid the mosquitos on holiday, you might thank us for this. Dabbing a little toothpaste onto a bug bit will relieve itching. Maybe not fully, but we’ll take what we can get when it comes to stings and bites! The menthol and mint flavourings in toothpaste act as a cooling agent and helps to cool and soothe the bite – try it!
Toothpaste makes hanging posters easy.
Gone are the days of forcing push pins into walls or tearing off chunks of plaster with sticky tack. Simply smear a little toothpaste onto the corners of a poster and press it against the wall. Upon removing the poster, there will be no damage to the walls. Simply wipe away the remaining toothpaste.
Toothpaste tackles sour milk smells in baby bottles.
Baby’s feeding bottles start to smell a bit funky after a while, but that doesn’t mean you have to replace them. Simply mix up a little water and some toothpaste, pour into the bottles and scrub with a bottle brush. Leave the mixture in for about 15 minutes and then rinse the bottle well. No more sour milk smell to deal with!
Clean up the grout between your tiles.
Over the years, the grout between tiles can harbour dirt and bacteria and as a result, the grout starts to darken. On grey and black grouts, this may not be noticeable but it can really show up on white grout and make the floor look dirty. Enter whitening toothpaste. Dab a little of the paste on to the grout and scrub with a hard bristled toothbrush. A little elbow grease will make such a difference!
