The End of Implants?
Ever lost a tooth or two? considered dental implants?
in the future, you might not have to.
A dentist in Colombia – Dr. Jeremy Mao – and his team of dentists from Columbia University were able to regenerate and re-grow missing teeth using stem cells. The stem cells act as a scaffold for which the new tooth would grow on top of. Dr. Mao explained that, “The missing tooth is replaced with stem cells from your body, and the tooth starts merging to the surrounding tissue on its own. This boosts the regeneration process and results in regrowth of the tooth in record time.”
What about Implants and dentures?
Is it time to say goodbye to dental implants? Dental implants have been used for many years now to recreate beautiful smiles. They are favoured by dentists and are much more durable than dentures if looked after carefully. Could this stem cell regeneration process really mean the end for implants?
The end of implants?
In short, this advancement could mean the end of expensive dental surgeries used to replace damaged or missing teeth in the near future.
Missing teeth are no laughing matter. If not replaced, they can cause severe pain, sensitivity and shifting of your other teeth. It is incredible important to have a replacement tooth created and fitted to prevent a whole host of other dental problems that could occur.
A thing of the future?
We know that dentistry is an industry full of continuous advancement but we didn’t think we would be seeing anything like this for a good few years yet. While it sounds fantastic, we think that implants will be paving the way for a little longer.
