Top 5 Teeth Whitening Products
Which products do dental professionals recommend?
We asked dentists, therapists and hygienists for their recommendations on teeth whitening products. The reason was to find out which products they would recommend for teeth whitening. You will be really surprised by the results!
Products such as Enlighten, Philips Zoom and Boutique Whitening were widely used in the clinics, but none of those are available to the public. This is due to their higher peroxide levels which can only be dispensed by a fully qualified dental professional.
So the answer is, if you want whiter teeth, go to your dentist, right? Yes, but there is a BIG but. Right now it is really difficult to get an appointment with a dentist to have your teeth whitened. This is because of the massive backlog of patients waiting for higher priority treatments. So how can we achieve that big bright smile we all want, especially with a healthy sun tan? Here are our top 5 products recommended by dental professionals in the UK.
Number 5

Janina Whitening Toothpaste. If you want to use a paste with higher levels of peroxide, then the Janina range is amongst the best quality. This recommendation came with a warning from dentists though. Peroxide is a bleaching agent. Not all dentists are enthusiastic about peroxide toothpastes. Indeed, most dentists were really critical of teeth whitening kits that come with a blue light as this is largely unproven technology. This reflects high degrees of scepticism about the Philips Zoom solution that some clinics provide. It uses blue light technology which many argue is a waste of time.
Number 4

We discovered that toothpastes that do not contain peroxide can achieve amazing results without having the risk of gum and enamel damage. We found out about Biomin toothpastes and the huge attention this product is getting in the wider market. This toothpaste works on the basis that if the enamel on your teeth is strong and healthy, then your teeth will appear whiter. Most dentists were really impressed with the results. This toothpaste remineralises your teeth, building the strength in your enamel on your teeth. In turn, this creates that wonderful, healthy, pearlescent look. Strong, healthy teeth means a whiter smile and this product certainly works.
Number 3

Next in our list of top teeth whitening products is the Waterpik WF05. This is a water flosser that gives a deep clean between your teeth, especially around the base of each tooth where plaque can build up. Remember, healthy teeth tend to be whiter. This particular Waterpik product comes with whitening tablets which help to remove stains, such as coffee, tea, curry, and red wine. However, some people prefer a cordless water flosser, usually because this offers flexibility of being able to use it anywhere. Waterpik help to make flossing easy and you can achieve that same fresh feeling as you do after a visit to your hygienist.
Number 2

Second on our list is a powerful, multi-purpose electric toothbrush. Electric toothbrushes can be really confusing and people often cannot tell the difference between one and another. Dental professionals love the Oral B Genius 9000 as it offers a vast range of functionality. You can set up your own, personalised oral health programme with goals to achieve. It works on bluetooth and records your progress.
For example, if your fist set of goals is to reduce plaque, it tells you which head to use, how much pressure to apply and how often you should be brushing. You could then go on to other goals such as whiter teeth, healthier gums of general health. This electric toothbrush may appear to be complicated, but it is easy to use. If you are comfortable with apps and general technology, then this is a brilliant investment. There are other, less expensive electric toothbrushes in the Oral B range. They even have a selection of brushes for kids and teens.
Number 1

The number one product for teeth whitening is the Philips Sonicare Range. The Sonicare toothbrushes clean deeper, faster and more effectively than most other electric toothbrushes. Indeed, the guarantee plaque reduction (that causes teeth yellowing) within 10 days. We were really impressed with the Sonicare Diamond Clean brushes because of it’s functions. However, our top recommendation is the less expensive Sonicare ExpertClean as this offers the most value. You will see up to 7 times healthier gums in just 2 weeks (Hard on plaque, gentle on your gums) when compared to a normal, manual toothbrush.
Conclusion
We were expecting to see fancy, expensive toothpastes on this list with loads of gizmos with flashing lights and fancy boxes. Teeth whitening at home can be achieved using good quality products. Healthy teeth means a whiter smile. We have come a long way since the Romans who used stale urine to whiten their teeth (thankfully!).
We also discovered that many mouth washes actually discolour teeth. Amazing! We found that Curasept mouth washes with ADS (Anti Discolouration System) protects whitened teeth from becoming dull and yellow.
We want to thank all the dentists, hygienists and therapists who took part in our survey. Their expert guidance is appreciated. We would also like to thank YourDentistRecommends.com for their guidance on products.
